Her never-ending variety of weird accents distracted from the jokes and made the performance unbearable. The ongoing sounds Shlesinger made throughout her performance were painful to my ears. What was supposed to be an hour filled with laughter quickly took a turn for the worst. It’s about a girl who ends up dating a sociopath. It’s a mostly true story, based on a lie that I actually lived. It feels like a rom-com at first and then it takes a twist.

I wrote and starred in this movie called Good on Paper. Tell me about this movie coming out on Netflix next month. I became a headliner very young, so I didn’t have to go through the emotional boot camp a lot of my compatriots did, but that doesn’t mean I don’t support them and want to make it a better industry for everyone. But everyone in every field no matter who you are, what color or gender, has their version of a harrowing story.
This is the best job in the world and it’s not going to be an easy one. So I’ve never felt the need to separate myself from the boys, because I am just as good if not better than them.Įveryone had a harrowing story, and they are succeeding despite that, so it is pretty inspiring.Įverybody has that, and some stories are more harrowing than others. In actuality I do plenty of lineups with plenty of men, many of whom I get paid a lot more than. But I do think people like to separate the boys from the girls.
But this documentary does a great job of threading the needle in terms of what bonds us. What do you think the answer to that is? Of course it’s always been there. Is that new as a result of #MeToo or was it always there? In that Netflix documentary Hysterical, it was especially touching to see how much female comedians are supporting each other. It was born out of a desire to help people. This was about giving people information and comfort. This wasn’t about having a show and being on TV. Because at the time, people were running out every day for groceries. We thought we can help people flatten the curve by encouraging them to stay home and cook with what they have.
